HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
The voices of the residents of Beni Yakhlef, near Mohammedia, are rising, demanding the transfer of the area from the jurisdiction of the Royal Gendarmerie to that of the National Security, in light of the rapid demographic growth the community has experienced in recent years.
The area has become a destination for thousands of families coming from villages, informal settlements, and shantytowns, in addition to dozens of economic residences that have sprung up like mushrooms, which has increased the population density noticeably and unprecedentedly, making the need for a security apparatus with a larger number and wider spread an urgent demand among the residents. Several local actors confirm that the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie are making great efforts to maintain security according to the available capabilities, but the limited human resources of this apparatus have become an obstacle to achieving comprehensive field coverage, especially with the expansion of the urban area and the increasing demand for housing in new neighborhoods within the community. The residents believe that the current situation requires an organized security presence capable of keeping pace with the challenges of population growth and providing faster and more efficient interventions. In light of these data, the residents renew their call to transform Beni Yakhlef into a security area subject to the General Directorate of National Security, considering that this apparatus has greater logistical and human capabilities that enable it to respond to the daily requirements of the area's residents. Local actors hope that the competent authorities will interact with this demand, which has become, in their expression, an urgent necessity to ensure security and enhance the sense of reassurance within a community that is witnessing rapid urban and social transformations.
