The General Directorate for the Security of Information Systems issued a warning on January 21, 2026, regarding a critical security vulnerability detected in the Google Chrome browser, classified as a “significant” level of risk and impact, which requires immediate vigilance from users and institutions.
The bulletin explained that the vulnerability, which carries the international identifier CVE-2026-0628, affects all versions of the Google Chrome browser older than versions 144.0.7559.96/.97 on Windows and Mac systems, as well as versions older than 144.0.7559.96 on the Linux system. According to the technical data, exploiting this vulnerability could allow an electronic attacker to cause a Denial of Service attack, which could lead to the browser crashing or affecting the stability of the system, especially in professional environments that rely on Chrome for processing data and digital services. In this context, the Directorate indicated that Google quickly issued a security update to address this vulnerability, confirming that the only effective solution is to install the latest available security updates, according to the official bulletin issued by the company. The General Directorate for the Security of Information Systems called on all users, whether individuals or institutions, to immediately check the version of their Chrome browser and update it without delay, to avoid any potential exploitation that could threaten the security of information systems or the continuity of services. This warning comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to enhance cybersecurity and reduce the risks associated with digital vulnerabilities, in light of the increasing number of electronic attacks and targeting of widely distributed software.
