The body of the late Moroccan artist Abdelhadi Belkhayat was buried this evening, Saturday, in the city of Casablanca, after performing the funeral prayer at the Al-Nour Mosque, before being transferred to the Martyrs’ Cemetery, in the presence of a significant number of citizens and figures from the artistic and political scene.
The funeral ceremony witnessed the participation of a number of prominent figures, including the artist Abdelwahab Doukkali, who bid farewell to his late friend with touching words, in addition to Abdelilah Benkirane, the former head of government and secretary-general of the Justice and Development Party, and Omar Sayed, a member of the Nass El Ghiwane group, as well as the family members of the deceased and his lovers, who shared the last moments of farewell to one of the symbols of the Moroccan song.
Abdelhadi Belkhayat was recently transferred to the hospital after suffering a health crisis, before he passed away, leaving great sadness in the ranks of his audience and colleagues in the artistic community.
The Ministry of Youth and Culture mourned the deceased, pointing out that his artistic and humanitarian career made him one of the prominent names in the history of the Moroccan song, and that his voice will remain firmly rooted in the collective memory of Moroccans, as he is a witness to a distinctive creative experience that lasted for many years.
It is worth mentioning that the deceased was born in 1940 in the city of Fez, and his name emerged during the sixties of the last century, as one of the voices that contributed to the renewal of the Moroccan song while preserving its authentic depth.
Abdelhadi Belkhayat later chose to turn towards religious chanting, presenting works of a spiritual nature, reflecting a shift in his artistic and intellectual choices, and adding a new dimension to his human and creative experience.
