HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
An official from the French Ministry of Higher Education announced that universities in France will no longer be able to grant broad exemptions from registration fees for foreign students from outside the European Union, confirming that about 90% of them will be required to pay the full fees.
This trend comes in the context of increasing global competition to attract international students, along with a demographic decline in the country. In this context, the French Ministry of Higher Education launched a new plan aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of French universities and attracting foreign competencies. This plan focuses on directing students towards strategic specializations, such as artificial intelligence and digital technology, quantitative sciences, and biotechnology. It also includes measures to simplify administrative procedures, create priority pathways, and provide distinguished scholarships. However, the decision to raise registration fees for students from outside the European Union has sparked widespread controversy, especially in academic circles, where it is feared that it will affect France's attractiveness as a preferred study destination for international students.
