HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
A government source in Mali reported the killing of Malian Defense Minister General Sadio Camara, following an attack targeting his home near the capital Bamako on Saturday, according to Agence France-Presse.
For its part, the French newspaper "Le Figaro" stated, based on informed sources, that the minister died along with a number of his family members, in the context of a series of violent attacks witnessed by the Malian capital during the same day. According to the available data, the minister's residence inside a military base in the Kati region on the outskirts of Bamako was targeted by a car bomb that caused almost complete destruction of the building. In a related context, field reports indicated the continued sound of gunfire in a town that includes a military site near the capital, after a large-scale attack carried out by armed groups, despite the army's announcement of regaining control of the area. The United Nations also called for urgent international action to confront the escalation of violence and terrorism in the Sahel region of West Africa, following these attacks.
