The regional road linking the municipality of "Aklm" and the city of Berkane, on Thursday, April 30, 2026, witnessed a traffic accident following the overturning of a school transport bus carrying 18 male and female students, an accident that mobilized various regional agencies and health services.
Immediately after being notified of the incident, the governor of the Berkane region went to the scene to directly supervise the rescue operations, accompanied by the head of the regional council, Mohamed Jaloul. All injured students were quickly transferred to the "Darraq" Regional Hospital in Berkane, where all medical staff were mobilized to provide the necessary examinations and first aid.
In a related context, the Berkane Regional Council issued a statement assuring families and citizens that all students were in "good health," confirming that most of them had left the hospital with their families after ensuring their safety.
The statement explained that the injuries were minor, with the exception of one case of a female student who suffered a fracture in her hand, where she was transferred to one of the private clinics in Berkane to receive the necessary treatment, and her condition is stable and does not cause concern.
Regarding the causes of the accident, the initial investigations initiated by the Regional Council, as a partner of the Regional Association for the Development and Generalization of Education, which oversees transportation, revealed that the overturning resulted from a "sudden explosion of one of the tires".
The official statement denied that excessive speed or overloading had any relation to the incident, stressing that the accident was accidental as a result of a sudden mechanical malfunction.
