HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Musaed
As part of its proactive efforts to ensure the health safety of citizens and visitors, the Regional Joint Monitoring Committee in the city of Saidia launched a large-scale inspection campaign on Wednesday, May 13th, targeting the food and fast food sector. This resulted in the seizure and destruction of significant quantities of food unfit for consumption.
These field raids resulted in the seizure and destruction of approximately 68 kilograms of various food items. These materials were intended for direct consumption in shops and restaurants in the city, but they lacked the minimum quality and safety requirements. Observations confirmed that poor storage and random freezing were behind the spoilage of these quantities, as the preservation process was carried out under unsuitable technical conditions, which led to the loss of the natural properties of the materials and their transformation into a real source of danger threatening public health. The operation was distinguished by close coordination between various regional and local agencies and departments, as the committee included monitors from the Economic Affairs and Coordination Department of the prefecture, representatives of the local authorities and security services, Civil Defense personnel, and experts from the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) in Berkane, and frameworks of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. These intensive moves come at a time when the city of Saidia, "the Blue Pearl", is preparing to receive the summer season, which witnesses the peak of tourist demand.
