Customs services, in coordination with the National Security elements at the Bab Sebta occupied border crossing, thwarted an attempt on Friday evening to smuggle a significant shipment of used mobile phones, which were carefully hidden inside a light vehicle bearing a foreign registration.
According to consistent data, the routine inspection of vehicles coming through the crossing resulted in the discovery of 398 used mobile phones from different brands, which were hidden inside secret cavities carefully prepared in the seats of a "Mercedes" car bearing license plates belonging to the Spanish Balearic Islands. The same sources added that the operation enabled the arrest of the driver of the car, who is a 44-year-old Moroccan citizen residing in Spain, on suspicion of his involvement in an attempt to bring these goods into the national territory illegally. The suspect has been subjected to the legal procedures in place under the supervision of the competent authorities, in order to deepen the investigation and uncover all the circumstances and potential extensions of this case, within the framework of the ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and enhance border crossing control.
