Seoul suggested on Wednesday that the attack that targeted a South Korean cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz at the beginning of May was carried out by an Iranian anti-ship missile.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it would summon the Iranian ambassador in connection with the attack on the ship "HMM Namu". The First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Park Yong-woo, explained to reporters: "Our government intends to summon the Iranian ambassador to Korea to present a strong protest regarding the attack on our ship and demand that responsible measures be taken to prevent a recurrence of such an attack." South Korean officials said that the government is scheduled to announce the results of the investigation into the attack on the ship "HMM Namu" later on Wednesday. The ship, which belongs to the South Korean shipping company "HMM Co", was attacked by two unidentified aerial objects while it was stopping in the Strait of Hormuz, amid the conflict between the United States and Iran. Since then, a government investigation team has conducted an in-depth analysis of the engine remains that were recovered from the two projectiles to determine their nature and who was responsible for the incident. The attack resulted in an explosion and a fire on board the ship, which led to one person out of the 24 crew members of the ship being slightly injured. The Iranian embassy in Seoul has not yet responded to a request for comment.
