The Ain Chqef commune in the Moulay Yacoub province witnessed, during the first and second days of Eid al-Adha, a state of discontent and dissatisfaction among the residents, due to the large accumulation of household waste and Eid leftovers in a number of neighborhoods, in a scene that raised increasing environmental and health concerns, especially with the delay in waste collection operations and the spread of foul odors at several points.
The article published by “HIBAPRESS” newspaper about the deteriorating environmental situation in the commune had sparked a wide discussion about the management of the sanitation sector, after it shed light on the manifestations of waste accumulation in the streets and residential neighborhoods, and the accompanying popular discontent and criticism of the management of this vital facility. Following that, the Ain Chqef commune services moved with instructions from the city's Pasha, and in direct coordination with the governor of Moulay Yacoub province, in order to contain the situation and restore things to their normal state, as a wide field campaign was launched to collect accumulated garbage and clean various black spots that witnessed the spread of waste during the Eid period. These interventions included the mobilization of additional mechanisms and trucks, in addition to strengthening the sanitation teams in order to accelerate the pace of collecting household waste and sacrificial animal waste, in an attempt to reduce the environmental and health repercussions left by this exceptional situation. Local sources confirmed that the authorities and the commune worked continuously during the past hours to remove the accumulated garbage and restore cleanliness in the urban area, especially after the residents' demands escalated for the need to find effective and sustainable solutions to manage the sanitation sector, to avoid repeating such scenes in the future. This situation brings to the forefront the importance of strengthening monitoring and tracking mechanisms, and improving sanitation services in the commune, especially during occasions that witness a large increase in the volume of waste, in order to ensure the preservation of the environment and the health of citizens.
