Abdellatif, a native of Taounat and a supporter of the AS FAR team, was arrested for publicly criticizing the team’s management, which sparked a heated controversy among supporters of the military club.
Abdellatif, known for his fierce passion for the team, did not hesitate to express his dissatisfaction with the policies and administrative actions that he believes negatively affect the club’s performance. He expressed his anger on social media, where he strongly criticized the recent decisions of the AS FAR management, highlighting the team’s poor results and performances.
His criticisms included contract management, player relations and the choice of coach. These issues sparked the ire of some of the club’s official bodies, who did not appreciate the expressions he used to express his anger and considered them inappropriate, and it was not long before Abdellatif was arrested for defamation and insulting the club.
The arrest has sparked a wave of protests among supporters of the military team and some in sports circles, who consider the move a violation of freedom of expression. They insist that criticizing the management should be considered a legitimate right of fans who help support the team, and that taking legal action against them could lead to the suppression of freedom of opinion and the legitimate expression of opinion.
On the other hand, management supporters argue that criticism should not be excessive and should not negatively affect the stability of the club and the performance of the players.
Abdellatif’s arrest received widespread media coverage, with some newspapers and websites calling for a review of the policy towards supporters of national sports teams. Some expressed fears that the incident was the start of a trend that could affect freedom of expression in Moroccan sport.
The military fan’s health situation is critical as he suffers from a malignant disease, which has prompted AS FAR supporters to show solidarity with him and ask for a pardon that takes into account his state of health.
