The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance has decided to grant an exceptional promotion to the martyr of duty, security guard Hamza Zaam, who was employed by the anti-gangs unit at the regional security in Al Hoceima. He passed away as a result of a brutal criminal assault with a hunting rifle, during his participation in a security operation to apprehend an individual wanted for drug-related offenses, attempted murder, forming a criminal gang, detention, and violence.
According to initial investigation information, elements of the anti-gangs unit in Al Hoceima supported a unit from the Royal Gendarmerie, which intervened in the Imzouren area to apprehend a 25-year-old individual who is the subject of 20 national arrest warrants for numerous serious felonies and misdemeanors.
During this security intervention, the suspect showed violent resistance and used a hunting rifle to target elements of the National Security and Royal Gendarmerie, causing a gunshot wound to a security guard that led to his death while being transported to the hospital. He also injured a door-opening technician before the threat posed by him was neutralized and he was apprehended.
The suspect has been subjected to judicial investigation procedures ordered by the competent public prosecution to uncover all circumstances and details of this case, identify all criminal acts attributed to the individual, and detect his connections to networks involved in the illegal trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, and violent crime.
