The coasts adjacent to the city of Ras El Ma in the Nador province have witnessed unprecedented security reinforcements since the early hours of Monday morning, September 7, following the detection of intensified movements of dozens of candidates for irregular migration seeking a sea route towards the occupied port or neighboring islands.
Joint units comprising Royal Gendarmerie elements, the Royal Armed Forces, and Auxiliary Forces were deployed along the coastal strip, where precise blockade points and continuous round-the-clock surveillance were established to close off the routes commonly used for launching inflatable boats.
Field authorities reinforced their mechanisms with modern detection methods and foot and mounted patrols using 4×4 vehicles and motorcycles adapted for rough terrain, while Royal Navy frigates combed the sea areas near the rocky beaches.
Proactive security interventions resulted in foiling collective infiltration attempts and apprehending scattered groups of migrants from sub-Saharan African countries who were preparing to set sail towards the unknown under difficult climatic conditions.
These field movements come amid the circulation of unconfirmed news about migrants perishing at sea due to drowning, which prompted the relevant authorities to intensify search and sea and air patrol efforts via helicopters to ascertain the truth of this news and determine the fate of potential missing persons.
