HIBAPRESS – Mohammed Daher
Elements of the Judicial Center of the Royal Gendarmerie in Bab Doukkala, Marrakesh, under the command of the center chief Younes Akifi, have succeeded in dismantling a network suspected of involvement in multiple criminal activities, including trafficking in nitrous oxide, locally known as "death gas," in addition to forging and using official documents.
According to initial available data, the Judicial Center's elements carried out a security intervention in the community of Tassoultante, which resulted in the apprehension of two individuals who were in a luxury four-wheel-drive "Touareg" vehicle. A search revealed a significant quantity of nitrous oxide, as well as a number of international passports, national identification cards, and gray cards, suspected of being forged.
The suspects attempted to flee during the gendarmerie intervention, but the vigilance of the intervening elements prevented them from doing so. They were apprehended and subjected to the necessary investigations and inquiries, which led to initial information about a third accomplice suspected of being one of the key members of this network.
Based on the gathered information, the Judicial Center chief Younes Akifi prepared a well-crafted ambush to catch the third suspect, a foreigner. He was spotted in a car belonging to a car rental agency near Victor Hugo School in the Gueliz area, before being surrounded and apprehended in a precise security operation.
The apprehension and search, according to initial data, resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of European currency, in addition to other passports suspected of being forged, as well as a number of mobile phones suspected of being used to communicate with potential clients.
Elements of the Judicial Center of the Royal Gendarmerie in Bab Doukkala continue their investigations, under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, with the aim of uncovering all the ramifications of this network, determining the nature of the activities its members were engaged in, and identifying the rest of the potential involved parties.
This operation comes in the context of security efforts aimed at combating various forms of organized crime, particularly activities related to the promotion of dangerous substances and the forgery and use of documents.
All data and acts attributed to the suspects remain subject to judicial investigation, pending the outcome of the investigations and the decisions of the Public Prosecution and the competent judicial authorities.
