The appearance of Moroccan international Abdessamad Zalazuli in a special Real Betis jersey bearing the phrase "Todos somos Caballas" sparked widespread controversy, as the initiative was linked to a message of solidarity with the occupied city of Ceuta, drawing a wave of anger from Moroccan fans towards the player.
Zalazuli's appearance in this jersey raises question marks, especially since it is not an ordinary sportswear, but rather a message that goes beyond football and carries political and territorial implications.
The Moroccan player should have stayed away from any sporting initiative that could be interpreted as support for Spanish political discourse regarding an occupied Moroccan city.
While Real Betis management bears responsibility for introducing these messages into stadium politics, Zalazuli's participation in it, in turn, exposes him to criticism, especially since wearing the jersey gave the initiative additional prominence through a Moroccan player.
Zalazuli should have maintained a clear distance from these issues and not engaged in an initiative that mixes sports with politics and touches upon the issue of an occupied Moroccan city.
