Ahmed Reda Chami, Morocco's Ambassador to the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), stated, following the European Parliament's adoption of a resolution on the events that occurred in late July in Ceuta, that "open, frank, and sober dialogue remains the path that should be prioritized to face common challenges, seize available opportunities, and build a prosperous future."
Chami explained, in a statement to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), that managing migration requires "daily operational involvement, continuous dialogue, and the search for common and sustainable solutions."
In this regard, he noted that the European Parliament's resolution on the Ceuta events "does not include any accusation or dictate towards Morocco, nor does it adopt any of the attempts to exploit the migration issue."
The ambassador also pointed out that "many amendments of a hostile nature were ultimately not adopted, thanks to the responsible, constructive, and sober approach of the majority of European deputies, particularly those belonging to the main political groups in the European Parliament."
Chami also expressed his regret that "media and propaganda campaigns are trying to attribute provisions or positions to the text that it does not contain."
The resolution, adopted by the European Parliament, received 339 votes in favor, 225 votes against, and 16 abstentions, meaning less than half of the European Parliament members.
