The Lekus Water Basin Agency continues its work of dredging and removing mud and waste from the riverbeds of several valleys in the Tetouan province, as part of preparations for the rainy season and to enhance the capacity of watercourses to drain rainfall.
The interventions included the Boussafo channel in the city of Tetouan for a length of approximately 2200 meters, in addition to cleaning the Muqlata channel for a distance of about 4 kilometers, with the aim of reducing blockages and ensuring water flow.
These operations are part of a maintenance program that began in mid-2025. The agency has initiated administrative procedures to award a contract for 2026 concerning dredging and reshaping watercourses, to complete interventions in priority sections.
The agency also continues to implement a broader program to protect the city of Tetouan from flood risks, emphasizing that evaluating the situation of the Oued Martil requires relying on precise hydraulic and field data, in addition to the role of the Al Sharif Al Idrisi dam in managing water flows towards the lower basin.
