HIBAPRESS – Tangier
Tangier Med port has climbed to the 16th position globally among the largest container ports, after processing over 11.1 million TEUs in 2025, compared to approximately 10.24 million containers in 2024, marking an annual increase of about 8.4 percent.
This progress comes after the port moved up one spot compared to the previous ranking, also securing the top position among African ports by a margin of 27 positions over the Egyptian port of Port Said, its closest continental competitor. Tangier Med has also surpassed the American port of Los Angeles, which ranked 18th globally.
This performance reflects the continued strong growth of the Moroccan port, which benefited from the expansion of a new terminal to increase its container handling capacity. The total traffic for the world's top 100 container ports rose by 6.3 percent during 2025, reaching 792.2 million TEUs.
The ranking is primarily based on the volume of containers handled and does not, by itself, constitute a comprehensive indicator of service quality, profitability, or operational performance of ports.
