In his first media and field appearance following the implementation of the decision to cancel the extra time today, Aziz Akhannouch, the head of government and a prominent leader in the National Rally of Independents party, visited the commune of "Smimou" in the province of Essaouira on Sunday morning, September 20. He presided over a large communication meeting with party militants and supporters as part of the election campaign for the upcoming elections.
Akhannouch interacted with the attendees, pointing to the positive impact of the decision to return to the Kingdom's legal time. He addressed the residents by saying, "You are active and comfortable. Thank God we slept well by returning to the legal time," highlighting the general sense of relief that this measure has brought to citizens.
The Kingdom had returned, at dawn today, Sunday, to Greenwich Mean Time by setting back the clocks 60 minutes, in implementation of the government decision issued on June 25, 2026, which stipulates the final cessation of work with extra time. This decision put an end to an 8-year debate, since the Justice and Development government adopted the permanent adoption of summer time throughout the year.
