Influential member of the US Congress, Joe Wilson, affirmed on Monday in New York that the United States attaches "great importance" to the role played by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in establishing peace and stability in Africa. He also praised the "leadership" of President Donald Trump in supporting Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara.
Wilson stated to the press, following his discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, "We are extremely grateful to His Majesty the King."
Wilson added that "the United States attaches great importance to the role of the Kingdom of Morocco in achieving stability across Africa," emphasizing that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, also plays a "leading role in this regard in the North African region."
Wilson, who chairs the Congressional Morocco Caucus, also praised the progress and successes achieved by the Kingdom, particularly at the economic, developmental, and defense levels.
Having noted "President Trump's leadership supporting Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara," Joe Wilson considered that regional peace, stability, and prosperity remain closely linked to the Kingdom's sovereignty over its southern territories.
He affirmed that "the concept of peace, stability, and prosperity in itself is fundamentally based on Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara."
The Congressman also highlighted the importance of the historical bilateral relations that unite Rabat and Washington, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Donald J. Trump.
The American Congressman said, "We are very impressed with this country, and by the way, we have never forgotten that Morocco was the first nation to recognize the (independence of the) United States of America."
