The Royal Gendarmerie services in different regions of Morocco have begun to strengthen surveillance of state vehicles to ensure their proper use for professional rather than personal purposes.
The campaign was launched immediately after video clips were circulated on social media documenting the inappropriate use of state cars on beaches during the holidays.
The campaign was not limited to the gendarmes, but even to the national security services, in order to monitor this fleet, which costs the public treasury significant sums of money, mainly related to fuel.
A campaign aimed at rationalizing the proper use of state cars as part of the rationalization of expenditure and providing financial margins in the state budget in order to reinvest them in social programs.
Data published by the National Transport and Logistics Company, responsible for managing the state’s vehicle fleet, indicate that this fleet consumes no less than 100 billion dirhams, including fuel, as well as maintenance and repair costs, which cost no less than 480 million dirhams, which is equivalent to 48 billion dirhams.
