The National Railways Office has won an international award for a project dedicated to water reuse during its participation in the "InnoTrans 2026" exhibition held in the German capital, Berlin.
The International Union of Railways awarded the Office the "Sustainable Impact Award 2026" in the "Natural Resources" category for the "Rewater Train" project, which relies on a system for treating and reusing water in railway facilities. According to the Office's data, the system allows for the reuse of 97 percent of water after treatment, reducing the need for new water resources by 70 percent, and recycling more than 8,000 cubic meters of water. The system has been adopted in Casablanca, and its expansion to Kenitra and Tangier is ongoing.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, organized by Berlin from September 22 to 25, the Office presented the "Inclusive Mobility" project, which reached the final stage among the nominated projects in the "Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion" category. It also showcased Morocco's directions in the railway industry. This international presence by the Office coincides with the preparations for the "Investment and Financing Solutions for the Future of Railways in Africa" forum, scheduled to be held in Rabat on October 14 and 15, in partnership between the National Railways Office and the International Union of Railways, to discuss mechanisms for financing railway development in Africa. "InnoTrans 2026" is witnessing the participation of 3,170 exhibitors representing 59 countries, an increase of approximately 200 companies compared to the 2024 edition, in addition to the presentation of 180 global innovations for the first time and 113 rail vehicles representing 17 countries.
