HIBAPRESS
Munir El-Lemoury, President of the Tangier Municipal Council, denied that his travel to Spain was related to the ongoing investigations into the incident at the voting office at Al-Quds School, stressing that the trip was pre-scheduled for professional reasons.
El-Lemoury explained, in a statement to the media, that his presence in Spain was related to a meeting scheduled for Friday morning at eight o'clock, which prompted him to travel before his appointment.
He added that he intended to leave Tangier on Thursday evening on the last ferry, but the time change in Morocco prevented him from catching it, forcing him to go to Ceuta at night and travel from there to Spain.
Regarding the presence of his children in Spain, El-Lemoury said that it was pre-arranged, explaining that they used to spend their weekends there and were scheduled to return to Morocco on Sunday.
The President of the Tangier Municipal Council indicated that he had intended to return to Morocco next Thursday, before bringing forward his return date to Monday, following the circulation of news linking his travel to the case, stressing that he would return to Tangier to give his statement to the competent authorities.
El-Lemoury expressed his surprise, according to his statements, at his travel to Spain being presented as an attempt to flee, questioning whether his travel could be considered an escape in light of the judicial cooperation and extradition agreements between Morocco and Spain.
He said that he had received calls from local and national media outlets to inquire about the matter, and informed them that the circulating information about his travel was incorrect, before being surprised, according to his account, by the publication of news contrary to his statements.
El-Lemoury affirmed that he had no connection to the facts under investigation, and that his anticipated return to Morocco aims, according to his statements, to give his statement to the competent authorities and clarify the circumstances of the case.
