Spanish Civil Guard elements, belonging to the maritime service, intercepted three boats carrying migrants in the early hours of Wednesday morning as they attempted to sail from occupied Ceuta towards the Iberian Peninsula.
The interventions resulted in the interception of over 30 migrants, with no arrests made of individuals suspected of piloting the boats, as Moroccan migrants took the lead themselves, according to information from Spanish media reports.
The interceptions occurred consecutively during a difficult night due to dense fog, with maritime service elements intervening at several points, including the Ras Amina area, where one boat was intercepted approximately 7 nautical miles offshore, in addition to the Al-Serchal and desalination plant areas.
These interventions come in the context of intensified maritime surveillance in the bay of occupied Ceuta to counter irregular migration attempts, amid information suggesting that some organizers of these journeys rely on leaving the boats to the migrants themselves before the end of the trip, in an attempt to avoid arrest and criminal responsibility.
