Stunt driving with motorcycles is increasing in a number of streets and squares in the city of Agadir, a behavior that provokes the resentment of residents and causes annoyance, especially during the early morning hours and on weekends, when some young people take advantage of the relatively low traffic to turn the streets into spaces for stunts and dangerous maneuvers.
These behaviors include performing stunts, increasing motorcycle speed, and making loud noises, in addition to what is known as "drifting" and sudden maneuvers. The effects of these practices are not limited to annoying residents, but may also expose their perpetrators and road users to danger, especially given the possibility of losing control of the motorcycle or startling a pedestrian or car driver.
In light of the growing phenomenon, security services in Agadir have reacted to a number of videos circulating on social media, in addition to complaints and reports from citizens. Some of those involved have been identified, and one motorcycle rider was arrested in connection with stunt driving in the city's streets, as part of efforts to curb these behaviors and confront anything that threatens the safety of road users.
A number of the city's residents believe that the continuation of these practices, especially in the late hours of the night and early morning, necessitates intensified security and traffic monitoring, particularly in the streets and squares where these behaviors are repeated. Emphasis must be placed on respecting traffic laws and taking the necessary legal measures against anyone who turns public roads into a space for stunts and risk-taking.
These incidents bring to the forefront the debate about the need to strike a balance between using motorcycles as a means of transportation and respecting public safety, especially since streets are not spaces for competition or stunts, and any reckless maneuver can turn into a tragic accident in moments.
