HIBAPRESS – Rabat
With the start of the new academic year, a number of students in the city of Rabat found themselves facing an additional challenge: the difficulty of obtaining suitable and affordable housing, given the overcrowding in the university residence halls and the high demand for rental rooms and apartments, especially near university institutions.
This situation has pushed a number of students to look for housing alternatives in neighborhoods far from the University City and the vicinity of university institutions, which has forced them to bear additional transportation costs and longer travel times to reach their lecture halls.
Amidst rising rental prices, some students have resorted to sharing rooms among three or four people, in an attempt to reduce housing costs and share expenses, despite the accompanying conditions that may not always provide the minimum level of comfort and privacy necessary for academic achievement.
Students are demanding more suitable solutions for university housing, whether by expanding the capacity of university residence halls or providing affordable housing alternatives, to alleviate the burdens of rent and transportation and help them focus on their studies.
