The Spanish National Police began the evacuation operation of "El Guancho" camp, the last major migrant camp in the sandy areas of occupied Ceuta, this Sunday morning. Approximately 300 police and military personnel participated.
The operation started at 8 AM, after a large number of migrants left the area before the security intervention began, heading towards the forest to avoid being transferred to the temporary reception center for foreigners, which is designated for registration and identification procedures.
According to "El Faro de Ceuta" newspaper, the transfer of approximately 200 migrants who were still in the camp began shortly after the intervention commenced, while cleaning teams started removing the makeshift shelters and belongings left behind by the migrants.
The procedures include transferring adults by bus to the temporary reception center for foreigners, before directing those who agree to complete the registration procedures to the designated reception center in the Loma Colmenar area. Minors are transferred to police headquarters for identification before being referred to protection and care centers.
The evacuation of "El Guancho" camp is a continuation of interventions that have taken place on the beaches of occupied Ceuta in recent weeks. Previously, police had cleared migrant shelter sites on Benitez and Trampolin beaches as part of operations targeting the removal of camps in the sandy areas.
