HIBAPRESS – Agadir
The employees' neighborhood in Agadir witnessed a terrible fire erupt inside a fast food restaurant "snack" on Saturday, leaving behind severe material losses as the fire consumed its contents and equipment, amidst a state of alert in the vicinity of the incident.
According to preliminary information, a butane gas leak is suspected to be the cause of the fire, pending the findings of ongoing investigations. This fire comes in the context of a series of fire incidents targeting commercial shops and food establishments in Agadir, which brings to the forefront the issue of compliance with safety and fire prevention conditions, and the effectiveness of monitoring and tracking mechanisms after the issuance of licenses. These incidents also raise questions about the standards adopted to ensure that shops are equipped with appropriate firefighting equipment, the safety of gas and electrical connections, and adherence to legally mandated preventive measures. Faced with the recurrence of these incidents, the need to strengthen field monitoring emerges, not only when granting licenses but also during the operation of the shops, to ensure continued compliance with safety conditions and protection of workers, customers, and neighboring residents. Are these shops subjected to the necessary periodic monitoring? And are the fire prevention requirements actually verified before they are licensed to operate? These are questions that arise while awaiting the results of investigations and the determination of responsibilities, should any breach of safety conditions be proven.
