HIBAPRESS-Abdellatif Barka
Attention is turning, tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13, to the election of a new Speaker of the House of Representatives, a political juncture that comes in conjunction with the finalization of arrangements for the formation of Fatima Zahra Al-Mansouri's government, after the announcement of the expected four-party alliance to lead the upcoming governmental majority.
Amidst ongoing consultations regarding the distribution of responsibilities within the majority, political circles are discussing prominent names from the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), foremost among them Mehdi Bensaid, Abdelatif Wahbi, and Ahmed Touizi, amid anticipation of the outcomes of party understandings regarding the personality that will receive the support of the alliance components to head the first chamber of parliament.
The discussion of these names is based on their experiences and positions within the party. Bensaid has accumulated governmental experience, while Wahbi previously held the position of Secretary-General of the party and the portfolio of Justice, and Touizi's name is associated with his experience in leading the parliamentary group of the Authenticity and Modernity Party. However, the final decision on the identity of the final candidate remains contingent on the agreements preceding the election session.
In contrast, it is not ruled out that the scope of discussion may extend to names from the Socialist Union of Popular Forces and the Independence Party, although nominating an independent personality may clash with calculations regarding the distribution of responsibilities within the legislative institution, given that the party heads the Council of Advisors.
Between the multiplicity of names and the calculations of political balances, all eyes are on tomorrow's session, which will reveal the outcomes of the understandings between the majority components and the identity of the personality who will assume the speakership of the House of Representatives in the coming phase.
