HIBAPRESS – Abdelatif Barka
The Casablanca fishing port witnessed, at the end of last week, the launch of a scientific mission led by the Russian research vessel "Atlantida", within the framework of strengthening Moroccan-Russian cooperation in the field of fisheries and marine scientific research.
This initiative, which began last Friday, is part of joint efforts to develop knowledge of marine resources and assess the status of fish stocks in Moroccan Atlantic waters. This mission is carried out in coordination with the National Institute of Fisheries Research, through the participation of a Moroccan technical crew, with the aim of exchanging expertise and developing methods for monitoring fish wealth.
The research includes studying the distribution and density of small pelagic fish, collecting marine samples, and analyzing a number of environmental indicators, which helps in understanding the transformations in the marine ecosystem.
This step is particularly important in supporting the sustainable management of Moroccan fisheries, as the research results will provide scientific data that can be relied upon in assessing fish stocks and making decisions related to their exploitation. It also reflects the continuation of the partnership between Rabat and Moscow in the maritime field, within the framework of scientific and technical cooperation aimed at achieving a balance between economic activity and the protection of marine resources and ensuring their renewal.
