Should we expect a continuation of exorbitant increases in gas prices or will we have to consider looking elsewhere than Russia to obtain our gas?
Because it should be understood that Sudja, a crucial transit city for Russian gas, in the middle of the conflict with Ukraine, sees Moscow continue to export part of its production, notably via Ukraine. Last year, 14.54 billion cubic meters of Russian gas transited through Ukraine, a drop of 28.5% compared to the previous year.
Markets are concerned about a sudden halt to Russian gas exports via Ukraine. The two countries currently have a contract with Gazprom, but that agreement expires at the end of the year, and kyiv, which receives transit fees, has already announced that it will not be renewed.
The impact on gas supplies to European countries should nevertheless remain limited, with the exception of Hungary and Slovakia. Most countries have diversified their sources of supply towards, among others, the USA.
