Some 32 cases of monkeypox (MPOX), including one death, have been confirmed in Ivory Coast, according to a new report on this epidemic made public on Saturday, during a meeting of the Monitoring Committee.
Out of 113 health districts in the Ivorian territory, these 32 confirmed cases were recorded in fifteen districts, while the outbreaks affected by this epidemic have no link between them, specified the Monitoring Committee, chaired by the Ivorian Minister of Health, Pierre Dimba.
Since the outbreak of this global health crisis, instructions have been given to the relevant departments to strengthen surveillance and monitoring of cases, to strengthen diagnostic, treatment, prevention and infection control capacities, the minister said, quoted in a press release from the Monitoring Committee.
He continued that his department had recorded some 272 contact cases taken care of in the 15 affected health districts, noting that among the cases notified to date, there were six recoveries.
An epidemiological surveillance and case monitoring plan has been put in place in Côte d’Ivoire, with the aim of improving diagnostic capacities, treatment and vaccination.
Controls are also being stepped up at the country’s borders, with temperature checks and observation of hands and faces for rashes.
The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a “public health emergency of international concern,” its highest alert category.
