Heba Press
The process of collecting information from families began today, Sunday, as part of the seventh general census of population and housing, in all regions of the Kingdom, which will continue until the 30th of this month.
The implementation of this strategic operation comes in application of the high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations Statistical Commission, and will make it possible to draw up a faithful portrait of the population and housing.
To carry out this process, 55,000 human resources (researchers, observers and group supervisors) were mobilized. The process has a diversity in terms of categories of participants, since among them, 60% are graduates and students, and 32% of them are women and men in education, while employees of public services and institutions, private sector workers, and retired civil servants constitute 8%.
On the logistical level, the High Commission for Planning has acquired 55,000 digital boards, thanks to joint funding with the Ministry of National Education, which will then be used to promote the digital school project.
The census data will be collected from an information application, developed by the executives of the High Commission for Planning and installed on digital boards that precisely define the boundaries of the districts and the paths that the researchers will follow during the census, as well as the forms and rules for verifying the validity and consistency of the data collected, which will facilitate the processing of the information collected in real time before sending it directly to the data management center.
The material and other logistical resources mobilized to carry out the census consist of 55,000 census materials (wallets, badges, hats, training materials, etc.); 350 storage centers for compositions and plates; 90 storage centers for supplies; and 7,000 cars and drivers.
The census budget is estimated at 1.46 billion dirhams, of which 67 percent is devoted to compensation of participants; 20 percent for material and logistical resources; and 13 percent for technological resources.
Regarding the methodology adopted to carry out this process, the High Commissioner for Planning, Mr. Ahmed Al-Halimi Alami, revealed during a press interview that the General Population and Housing Census for 2024 will be based on two forms to collect data from families.
The first form includes questions related to demographic structures and rare phenomena such as international migration and deaths, while the second detailed form, in addition to the above, includes questions related to new topics such as social protection, the use of information and communication technologies, and the environment.
He stressed that this form would be addressed to all residents of communities with fewer than 2,000 families and to a sample of 20 percent of families residing in communities with a population equal to or greater than 2,000 families, while the short form would be reserved for 80 percent of the population.
This major national operation will make it possible to identify demographic, social and economic indicators for the entire population, including particular population groups such as nomads or the homeless.
