The statements of the former Minister of Higher Education and Training of Moroccans, Lahcen Daoudi, have sparked widespread anger among teachers, after he stressed the need for radical changes in the educational workforce, particularly regarding the abilities of educational agents to keep pace with global technological developments and use them in the field of education.
Speaking at a symposium within the National Youth Forum of the “Justice and Development Party” organized recently in Bouznika, Daoudi indicated that a certain number of educational frameworks are no longer able to keep pace with the demands of the future, and that between 30 and 40% of educational frameworks that are no longer able to keep pace must be modified by global technological developments and future demands of the labor market.
The minister’s statement was widely contested by teachers who see it as a threat to their professional future.
Some teachers felt that improving the quality of education should not be done at the expense of staff who have spent years serving in education, but rather by supporting them with training and providing them with the skills needed to better perform their tasks.
Teachers noted that Al-Daoudi’s statements contained a kind of generalization and injustice towards them, considering that the solutions proposed to the problems of education must take into account the reality of the sector and the conditions of the workers who work there.
