Spanish National Police in the Asturias region arrested a Spanish businessman of Moroccan origin last weekend, accused of exploiting illegal Moroccan workers in his agricultural business. This operation followed a complaint from one of the workers, who indicated that the accused had promised to regularize his professional status in exchange for 5,000 euros.
Investigations, carried out in cooperation with the Spanish Labor and Social Security Inspectorate, showed that many of the company’s workers worked in poor conditions, as they were forced to work more than 12 hours a day, without days of leave, to difficult tasks such as slaughtering. trees.
It was also confirmed that workers had only the minimum necessary protective equipment and received no training on occupational hazards, despite using dangerous machinery such as saws and brush cutters.
