Heba Press – Spain
Spanish media reported that the Socialist Workers’ Party and the Somar coalition presented a new proposal to the Spanish Parliament aimed at regulating the conditions of Moroccan immigrants who entered Spain before the end of 2023.
She added that this legislative initiative should give the possibility to around 700,000 immigrants to correct their legal status in Spain.
This measure is part of an initiative widely supported at parliamentary level, in particular by the opposition People’s Party.
Media reports indicated that this initiative, if approved, will be the most important in the country’s history, as it will expand the scope of beneficiaries to include arrivals after the previously specified date of November 2021.
Recent estimates from the Fincas Foundation indicate that the number of foreigners residing illegally in Spain reaches around 686 thousand people, which represents around 17% of the number of foreigners from countries outside the European Union.
Under the current proposal, approximately 470,000 immigrants are expected to benefit from this amendment, a notable increase from previous estimates of 517,000 immigrants by the end of 2021.
