During a meeting held today Thursday by the Committee on Education, Culture and Communication of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Ezzedine Medaoui, presented in detail the most important indicators and projects linked to higher education. education in Morocco, the ministry’s work program for the year 2025 and its draft budget for the same year.
During this meeting dedicated to the presentation of the ministry’s sub-budget, Medawi confirmed that there is a significant and continuous demand for public and private higher education institutions, while the total number of students for the academic year 2024-2025 increased by 5.3 percent. compared to the previous season, bringing the number of students to one million 307 thousand and 327 students.
In this context, he explained that public universities welcomed 1,159,399 students, representing 89 percent of the total number of students, recording an increase of 4.8 percent compared to the previous season, while public universities Private higher education institutions welcomed 87,226 students (7 percent of the number). . Total number of students) with an increase of 10 percent compared to the 2023-2024 season. Public higher education institutions not affiliated with universities, for their part, recorded an increase in student numbers of 9.4 percent, to 60,702 students (5 percent of total students).
The minister highlighted that the percentage of students enrolled in limited access courses increased by 21 percent between the academic years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, emphasizing that they constitute 26 percent in the three components of the higher education.
Regarding the training offer for the year 2025, Medawi indicated that the new educational structure will be implemented for the master’s sector and establishments with limited polarization, and that the training offer will be diversified to include 4,000 accredited sectors, including 1,000 courses in private higher education establishments. and 3,000 in public higher education establishments.
He added that the ministry strives to increase the employability of higher education graduates by disseminating employability development centers in universities, strengthening partnerships with the institutional, economic and field environment , by generalizing the national system for student entrepreneurs and creating structures that follow professional paths. the integration of graduates in all universities, in addition to creating a central structure to monitor the professional integration of higher education graduates.
At the level of scientific research, Medawi highlighted that there are more than 245 accredited doctoral courses and the granting of 1,000 doctoral scholarships per year, while striving to increase the number of these scholarships through the conclusion partnerships with ministerial sectors.
