Madame Faouzia ZAABOUL, Director of Treasury and External Finance, recently took part in the BimaLab Africa Insurtech 2024 summit organized under the theme “Catalysing Inclusive Growth: Pioneering Insurtech Solutions for Africa’s Financial Landscape”.
Also taking part in this Summit were Messrs Simon Martin CMG, Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Rabat, Abderrahim CHAFFAI, President of the Insurance and Social Security Control Authority, Kelvin MASSINGHAM, Director of Risks and Resilience at the FSD Africa and Nicolas CHRISTINET, Director of the North Africa Region at SWISS RE.
In her speech, read on behalf of the Minister of Economy and Finance on this occasion, Mrs. Faouzia ZAABOUL underlined the importance of innovation to build a more resilient financial system, more accessible and better adapted to the needs of African populations.
She indicated at this level that insurtech solutions, combining technological advances and financial services, are important levers for facilitating access to insurance products and improving financial inclusion.
Madam Director also specified that in recent years, the insurance sector has experienced several advances which have made it possible to strengthen its role in socio-economic development. However, even greater expectations rest on this sector to fill the protection gaps and provide coverage accessible to the needs of all Moroccans.
Ms. ZAABOUL also recalled that public authorities are making considerable and constant efforts to stimulate inclusive growth and encourage innovative initiatives. She cited as an illustration the Innov Invest Fund set up to finance startups and innovative projects, making it possible to create a dynamic and balanced ecosystem stimulating entrepreneurship in Morocco, particularly in the technological sectors.
Finally, Madam Director stressed that support for innovation should not be limited to financial aspects alone but also include support for entrepreneurs to strengthen the capacities to promote a culture of entrepreneurship among young people and to bring about a generation of innovators capable of meeting the challenges of tomorrow.
