The great advantage obtained by Moroccan banks over their Algerian counterparts in the latest economic report concerns banking activity at the level of North African countries, where Moroccan banks were able to largely sweep aside their Algerian counterparts.
In this regard, the Jeune Afrique magazine published an economic report based on precise financial data concerning the transactions of banks operating in North African countries. It has become evident that Egyptian and Moroccan banks dominate the top ranks with a huge number of transactions.
According to data from the same report, the National Bank of Egypt comes in first place with a turnover exceeding 176 billion dollars, followed in second place by its compatriot “Bank of Egypt” with around 103 billion dollars, then the Moroccan bank “Attijariwafa”. Bank” with a figure of around 43 billion dollars.
A Moroccan bank also comes in fourth position, it is the “Groupe Banque Populaire”, with a number of transactions close to its predecessor, while “BMCE”, “Al-Qard Al-Falahi”, “CIH” and “ Al-Bareed.” Algerian banks also ranked among the top fifteen, while Algerian banks came in last position.
