HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zeriyouh
After years of waiting, the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, and Logistics announced the completion of the expansion and strengthening work on National Road No. 19, which extends for 87 kilometers between Selouane and Taourirt. The road, which suffered from congestion and danger, has today turned into a modern strategic axis linking the East to the Kingdom's major projects.
The project was not just an ordinary expansion, but a huge project that raised the width of the road to eight meters and prepared new sides with a width of 1.5 meters, with the construction of modern facilities to drain rainwater, so that the suffering of the interruptions that the region used to experience every winter would not be repeated.
The real importance of the road lies in its strategic role, as it opens the direct link between the highway at the Taourirt interchange and the Nador West Med port, the giant port project that is relied upon to change the features of the economy in the region.
The residents of Nador, Jerada, and Taourirt will be the first beneficiaries, through faster and less dangerous commutes, which gives them a new feeling of connection to the major national projects. It is not just kilometers of asphalt, but a step towards stronger integration of the East into the economic cycle of Morocco.
This achievement is added to the list of huge projects that the region has witnessed in recent years, such as the Oujda ring road, the expansion of National Road No. 2 between Oujda and Nador, and the strengthening of National Road No. 6 between Jerada and Fez. All of this draws the features of an unprecedented transformation in the infrastructure of the Oriental region.
