Construction work on the longest and largest road bridge in Morocco over the Saguia el-Hamra valley, part of the ring road of the city of Laayoune, is witnessing an advanced pace of completion, with the progress rate reaching approximately 30%, within the framework of the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway project, which is one of the most prominent strategic projects in the southern provinces.
The bridge extends over a length of 1,648 meters and a width of 21.4 meters, forming a unique engineering facility at the national level, aiming to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and reduce pressure on the entrances to Laayoune, in addition to strengthening the road connection between the south and the rest of the major centers of the Kingdom. The total cost of the project is estimated at 1.38 billion dirhams, and it relies on 15 supported spans with deep foundations extending over more than 9 kilometers, which reflects the engineering complexity and high technical accuracy required by this massive project. The bridge will include two separate lanes in both directions, in addition to pedestrian walkways, according to the highest safety and environmental sustainability standards, with the completion of work scheduled for July 2027 according to the approved schedule. This project is not limited to being a major infrastructure, but rather represents a fundamental pillar within the expressway towards Dakhla, and an actual embodiment of the new development vision in the southern provinces, which was launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2015, to consolidate the economic and regional integration of the Kingdom.
