Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed that his American counterpart, Donald Trump, asked Turkey to intervene to convince Hamas to agree to his plan to end the war in Gaza.
Erdogan explained, in press statements while returning from Azerbaijan, that Trump requested during his recent visit to the United States and during a phone call between them that Ankara meet with the Hamas leadership to convince them to accept the peace proposals. He added that Turkey has actually contacted Hamas, which has expressed its readiness for peace and negotiation, and Erdogan considered this position a positive step. The Turkish president affirmed his support for Trump's efforts to achieve peace, stressing that his country's priority is to reach an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Erdogan also pointed out that the rehabilitation of the infrastructure in Gaza and the necessity for the land to remain under the administration of the Palestinians themselves are essential files, considering that security arrangements and the mechanism of managing the "stability force" in the sector are issues that can be discussed later.
