The surroundings of the Beni Mellal security directorate witnessed, today, Saturday, an unfortunate incident after a person suspected of suffering from mental disorders smashed the windows of a number of police cars parked near the security headquarters, in an unnatural state of rage.
According to identical sources, the person in question showed signs of acute psychological disturbance before proceeding to inflict material damage on public property, which necessitated immediate intervention by the security elements who were able to apprehend him without recording any human injuries. This incident brings back to the forefront the debate about the absence of specialized institutions to care for people with mental illnesses in the city, in light of the repetition of similar incidents in recent months. Activists from associations and local residents have demanded that the health and local authorities establish hospitals and treatment centers for this group, to avoid the repetition of such incidents and to preserve public safety.
