Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated today in Moscow the firm determination of Russia and Morocco to continue joint work to further strengthen their relations, which have always been friendly and based on trust and the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Lavrov highlighted, during a press conference with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita following their talks, that these discussions touched upon trade and economic exchanges. He said, "We have a common interest in increasing the volume of trade and searching for areas for mutual investment," indicating that the two sides agreed that the potential for practical cooperation in these areas has not yet been fully exhausted. Referring to the eighth session of the Russian-Moroccan Joint Governmental Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, which will be co-chaired tomorrow, Friday, by Bourita and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, Lavrov stated that he "expects good results." The Russian Foreign Minister added, "We have noted with satisfaction the high level of interaction in a wide range of other areas," particularly mentioning the education sector, where 4,520 Moroccan students are studying in Russia. He also said, "We have stable and trusting contacts between the foreign ministries of the two countries, especially at the United Nations, as well as on other international platforms, including the Russia-Africa Forum and Russia-Arab League," stressing that the signed memorandum of understanding concerning the establishment of a Russian-Moroccan working committee between the foreign ministries of the two countries will enhance interaction and coordination between the two parties, serving to deepen the strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco. Lavrov mentioned that next year marks the tenth anniversary of the joint declaration signed at the highest level on deepening the strategic partnership, highlighting that this anniversary will witness a series of events, especially the exchange of visits between ministerial sectors and the intensification of contacts between parliamentarians, in addition to organizing Russian Culture Days in Morocco.
