Technical procedures of the company supervising delay the maritime link between the Moroccan Sahara and the Spanish islands

The Moroccan and Spanish authorities together await the resumption and reopening of the maritime link between the Moroccan Sahara via the port of Tarfaya and the Spanish islands located in the Atlantic archipelago after years of stopping maritime crossings between them.

The Moroccan and Spanish governments have held a series of meetings in recent months and agreed to restore the maritime link between Tarfaya and the Spanish islands.

Under the signed agreements, the company “Newport Hamilton” obtained the contract for the reestablishment of the maritime link between the Moroccan Sahara and the Spanish islands, and the company undertook to make all possible efforts so that the maritime line be operational in the coming weeks.

Some technical difficulties encountered by the company delayed the resumption of sea crossings between Tarfaya and the Spanish islands, prompting the company to mobilize all its resources to open the sea line during this year.

At the same time, the president of the government of the Canary Islands is expected to visit Morocco, more precisely the region of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, where he will meet several Moroccan officials. Among the items on the agenda of this visit is the reopening of the maritime link between the Moroccan Sahara and the Spanish islands.

The maritime link between Morocco and the Spanish islands should contribute significantly to facilitating the movement of people and goods, in particular by considering Morocco as the main destination for residents of the Spanish islands.
