The General Secretariat of the General Union of Arab Journalists issued an official statement from the city of Laayoune, affirming its steadfast positions towards the just causes of the Arab nation, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
The statement mentioned the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, which resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, deliberately targeting journalists, where more than 250 male and female journalists were killed in Gaza, and more than 12 journalists in Lebanon and Syria, in an unprecedented incident in the history of global conflicts. The Union called on international professional organizations to form an international investigation committee to investigate the facts and submit an official complaint to the International Criminal Court to ensure the accountability of the criminals, and announced an initiative to support Palestinian journalists, including a visit by a leading delegation to Gaza to meet with journalists and the families of the martyrs. The statement also stressed the need to stop the war against the Palestinian people, end the unjust siege, and expedite the reconstruction of Gaza, and the immediate recognition of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. On the other hand, the Union renewed its support for Arab journalists in conflict zones, affirming Morocco's absolute right to its territorial integrity, and supporting the self-governance project as a just solution to the conflict in the Moroccan Sahara, while praising the development efforts in the southern regions. The Union also expressed its concern about the deterioration of press freedom in some Arab countries, calling for the development of press and publishing laws, and the promotion of continuous training for journalists to face modern technological challenges. The meeting concluded by thanking the Moroccan authorities and the municipal council of the city of Laayoune for their efforts in organizing and for their good reception and hospitality.
