HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
The Criminal Court of First Instance at the Court of Appeal in the city of Taza, today, Tuesday, November 11th, sentenced a driving instructor in his thirties to six months in prison, in addition to a fine of 5,000 dirhams, after being charged with unintentional manslaughter resulting from a traffic accident, deliberately refraining from providing assistance to a person in danger, and fleeing after committing the crime.
This ruling comes weeks after a judicial investigation was opened into the tragic accident that shook the outskirts of Taza, which claimed the life of a person in a state of homelessness, after being hit by a car that was used for driving lessons. According to the available data, the details of the incident date back to the night of Saturday/Sunday, November 2nd and 3rd, when the regional road linking the city of Taza and the Keldman area witnessed a fatal traffic accident, resulting from a man being hit who was walking along the road, and he died at the scene. Local sources stated that the car involved in the accident belonged to a driving school located in the Al-Hajra neighborhood in the city of Taza, and was driven by the convicted person, who left the scene immediately after the accident, without offering help to the victim or informing the competent authorities. Security mobilization and judicial investigations. Upon notification, the local authorities and elements of the Royal Gendarmerie rushed to the scene, accompanied by an ambulance, and the body of the deceased was transferred to the morgue at Ibn Bajja Regional Hospital in Taza, in order to subject it to a medical examination, in an attempt to identify the identity, especially since he did not carry identification documents. In a later development, the same sources revealed that the driver surrendered himself to the Royal Gendarmerie services on Saturday afternoon, and he was placed under custody, before being referred to the Public Prosecution, which decided to prosecute him in custody. The ruling issued against the convicted person represents a strong message about the seriousness of crimes related to traffic accidents, especially in the event of failure to provide assistance to the victims or attempting to escape legal responsibility. This case remains a testament to the need to raise awareness among drivers of safety duties and ethical responsibility, especially within the urban and semi-urban areas, where road users from vulnerable groups remain more vulnerable to fatal accidents.
