HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyaoui
The tourist area of Dayet Aoua in the Ifrane region witnessed a shocking incident last Thursday night, which sparked a wave of widespread condemnation, after Royal Gendarmerie elements arrested a member of the Istiqlal party who was in a car with his friend and two women, one of whom was a minor, and in an advanced state of intoxication.
According to consistent local sources, the way the car was being driven attracted the attention of a Royal Gendarmerie patrol that was monitoring the area, and it was stopped after suspicion of the driver's behavior. Initial data indicate that those arrested were in a state of debauchery and severe intoxication. The sources add that another member belonging to the National Rally of Independents party was present in the same place, before leaving moments before the intervention of the Royal Gendarmerie elements, which raised questions about the nature of his presence there and the circumstances in which he left before the arrest. The detainees were taken to the Royal Gendarmerie center to be heard as part of the preliminary investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, including the minor in accordance with legal requirements in order to determine the circumstances of her presence in this suspicious situation. All those arrested are expected to be brought before the judiciary on Saturday. Sources revealed that there was a waiver to resolve the problem with the minor. This incident has brought back to the forefront the debate about the ethical behavior of some local elected officials, and the need to tighten monitoring mechanisms and link responsibility with accountability, in order to preserve the image of public institutions and the trust of citizens, which is shaken from time to time due to such practices.
