HIBAPRESS
In her first media appearance since the news broke of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's relationship with global singer Katy Perry, his ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire, opened her heart and spoke candidly about her personal life, confirming that what a person goes through emotionally “is not easy” no matter how composed they may seem.
Grégoire, who was a guest on a podcast presented by Arlene Dickinson, faced questions about Trudeau's new relationship with firmness and balance, despite the sensitivity of the subject. The presenter did not hide her admiration for her guest's composure, confirming that she showed "unparalleled calm." But Sophie refused to be seen as someone who is not affected, saying frankly: “We are human… and it is natural for things to leave their mark on us.” In a remarkable moment, Grégoire interrupted her description as a “single mother,” asserting firmly: “I am not a single mother. I have a full partnership with a father who has great love and interest in his children.” Trudeau and Grégoire announced their separation in August 2023 after an 18-year marriage that resulted in three children. Since then, the press has pursued Trudeau's private life, especially after photos of him were taken last September with Katy Perry, as they exchanged affection, before confirming their relationship officially after they appeared holding hands in a nightclub in Paris during the star's birthday celebration in October. Despite all the noise surrounding the story, Grégoire seemed fully aware of the nature of her position, as she said: “I know that many public matters can be triggers… but what I do is my decision, and the woman I want to become… this is my decision alone.” She concluded her message by affirming her basic value as an advocate for mental health, adding: “I will allow myself to be angry, sad, and disappointed. These feelings are important… and we must give them their due.”
