A consultative meeting was held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Fisheries Chamber, dedicated to discussing the project of generalizing contracting between suppliers and fishermen, in light of the awareness of the pivotal role of this group in stimulating the economic and social movement of the fishing sector.
The meeting was chaired by Mourad Al-Abboubi, Vice-President of the Chamber, in the presence of Mohamed Hmamou, Director of Maritime Training, Abdellah Al-Asri, Head of the Seamen's Section, and Aziz Toufik, Treasurer of the Chamber. During this meeting, the contents of the contract project were studied, where the participants appreciated the goals to be achieved, especially those related to ensuring the rights of both parties and organizing the professional relationship between suppliers and fishermen. In contrast, representatives of professionals stressed the need to expand the circle of consultation with fishermen as they are an essential party in the contracting process. The attendees also drew attention to the specifics and constraints of the fishing sector, which is based on a quota system and grants the fisherman the status of a partner and not a wage earner, in addition to the instability of working days due to the forced stoppages of the boats and periods of biological rest.
